Miami Gardens is named from among the main roadways through the area, Miami Gardens Drive. It is a suburban city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The city of Miami gardens had a population of approximately 107,165 according to the Census of 2010. There is a predominant African American population living here and it is the biggest city within the state of Florida.

After the construction of I-95 during the late 1960s, there were upper and middle income West Indian American and African American families who moved into the neighborhood from the numerous Miami neighborhoods. They traveled to Norwood or Norland which eventually became Miami Gardens. Originally, they arrived as restrictive covenants fell into abandonment and most African Americans with low income moved into the inner city neighborhoods which surrounded Edison Courts and Liberty Square.

On the 13th of may, 2003, the city of Miami Gardens was incorporated. The city's neighborhoods of Bunche Park, Lake Lucerne, Opa-Locka North, Andover, Scott Lake and Carol City were previously unincorporated areas within Miami-Dade County.

The Miami Dolphins call the city of Miami Gardens home. They regularly play inside Sun Life Stadium on land that was part the Lake Lucerne CDP. The Orange Bowl college football games held at the Sun Life Stadium every year. Additionally, this is the home field for the University of Miami Hurricanes football team. The Antioch Mission Baptist Church of Carol City is active within the area and has more than 7500 members active within the area. Additionally, the Calder Race Course is situated here.

The county of Miami-Dade is frequently referred to as the county of Dade, Miami, Dade, Miami-Dade, Greater Miami and Metro-Dade. This county is located in the southeastern part of the state of Florida. The region had a population of approximately 2,496,430 according to the 2010 census, making it Florida's most densely inhabited county. It ranks as the 8th most densely inhabited county within the nation. When it comes to land area, it is the state's third largest county, with around 1,945 square miles. Miami Gardens is situated near numerous unincorporated areas, like 35 incorporated cities. Much of the northern, eastern and central portions of the county support high rises all along the shores and are heavily developed. The location of the central business district of South Florida is considered to be Downtown Miami. The Southern Miami-Dade County includes the Homestead and Redland areas. These are the agricultural centers of the economy of Miami. Around 33 percent of the inhabited land area of Miami-Dade County is Agricultural Redland. This area is sparsely populated and offers a stark contrast to the densely populated northern part of Miami-Dade County. The Everglades National Park is the western portion of the county which is populated just by a Miccosukee Tribal village. The Biscayne National Park is found east of the mainland in Biscayne Bay.
