Los Angeles is also the seat of Los Angeles County. This is amongst the most ethnically diverse counties within all of the USA and additionally, is among the most populated counties. The people of the city are known as "Angelenos." Within the US, the city of Los Angeles is the most diverse metropolitan area.

At present, the metro L.A. area is the largest manufacturing center within the entire United States. Situated within Los Angeles is one of the countries busiest ports and serves as a distribution center for the west coast and a gateway to Asia. Located within San Pedro, the Port of Los Angeles is located approximately 32 km or 20 miles south of Downtown in the neighbourhood of San Pedro. It is also known as Los Angeles Harbor or WorldPort LA. The port adjoins the separate Port of Long Beach. The port complex comprises 7500 acres or 30 km2 of land and water along 69 km or 43 miles of water front.
