The city of Sacramento is situated at the point where the Sacramento River and the American River meet in the northern part of the Central Valley. The city is the seat of Sacramento County and is the capital of the state of California. The city is the seventh largest city within the state of California with a population of approximately 466,676. Out of all the different communities in the county, Sacramento was ranked the most culturally and economically diverse in the year 2002 by Time magazine.
The city is usually called the "River City" as it is located close to the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River. Numerous kayakers, rafters and boaters come to the area from all around the globe.
