The city of Scottsdale is located in the eastern portion of Maricopa, Arizona in the USA. The city is situated right next to Phoenix. The population was about 217,385 based on the U.S. Census Bureau. The downtown region of Scottsdale has been described by the New York Times as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach." It has been described as having a lively hotel scene and is home to a lot of late night partying.
The city of Scottsdale is bordered to the south by Tempe, towards the north by Carefree and to the east by the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and Fountain Hills and to the west by Paradise Valley and Phoenix. The city is found in the Salt River Valley or the "Valley of the Sun". It lies in the northern area of the Sonoran Desert. The McDowell Mountain Range is found immediately to the northeast and the east of Scottsdale.

There are more than 7.5 million tourists who travel through the city of Scottsdale on a yearly basis and they contribute more than $3.1 billion dollars to the economy. The city of Scottsdale comes in third after Las Vegas and New York City as having the most AAA Five Diamond resorts and hotels within the United States. The AAA awarded 5 particular properties within Scottsdale with the highest honor during the year 2008.
