Uxbridge is a township located in the Regional Municipality of Durham in the Greater Toronto Area, located in the south-central area of Ontario. There are several communities within the town like for instance Coppins Corners, Sandy Hook, Roseville, Zephyr, Leaskdale, Siloam, Sandford, and Victoria Corners, though the main centre in the township is the namesake community of Uxbridge.

Quakers were the first inhabitants to the area when they came in 1806. They made their way from the Catawissa area of Pennsylvania. The oldest building of the town has long been the Uxbridge Friends Meeting House. It was constructed during the year 1820 and overlooks the town from Quaker Hill which is a kilometer towards the west. During 1850, the town was incorporated as a municipality and immediately became part of the newly formed Ontario County 2 years after.

The Toronto and Nipissing Railway arrived within Uxbridge during June of 1871. This was the first passenger carrying narrow gauge railway within North America. For more than ten years, the town of Uxbridge was the headquarters for the railway. In 1872, Uxbridge village became separated from the Township and was incorporated as a separate entity.

Uxbridge is primarily a suburban community situated within the Durham Region. The key manufacturing employers in the area consist of Koch-Glitsch Canada that specializes in mass transfer systems, Pine Valley Packaging, who deals with packaging, containers and portable shelters, and Hela Canada, the ingredient and spice manufacturer. There are various residents who travel to other centres within the Durham and York Regions and beyond.

Uxbridge Township received federal designation in 2009 by Industry Canada as Canada's Trail Capital. This is due to the more than two hundred twenty km of managed trails stretching over 32km2 or 8,000 acres of protected greenspace within its borders.. These trails run longside historic communities and through mixed ponds, forests, wetlands, streams and meadows. There are also many major trail systems that pass through the Town like for instance the Trans-Canada Trail and the Oak Ridge's Trail.

A lot of the community's history is stored at the Uxbridge-Scott Museum and Archives. This particular building houses several artifacts, especially those related to the genealogy of the residents and the agricultural heritage of the region. The Museum likewise consists of 9 heritage buildings together with heritage herb and flower gardens. Every year the annual Heritage Days festival is celebrated and throughout that time, the museum grounds are host to the "Steam Show" which features steam engines and steam based agricultural machines together with different other attractions.
