In Peterborough city Ontario, the biggest operations include General Electric and Quaker Oats. Then again, Peterborough Regional Health Centre is presently the largest employer, with around 2,000 or more personnel. The Trent-Severn Waterway is home to the biggest hydraulic lift lock, the Peterborough Lift Lock. The lock was opened during 1904. Located within downtown Peterborough is Del Crary Park, that is home to the Peterborough Yacht Club. The Peterborough Skateboard park was constructed recently, and is considered to be among the biggest skateboard parks within Ontario. It has numerous various rails, ramps, and several half-pipes. For yearly events, there are Downtown Countdown, Artsweek, Festival of Trees, Simcoe Day, and Peterborough Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade. Artsweek is an annual celebration of the arts held during the month of September. Downtown Countdown is an alcohol/drug-free New Year's celebration. Festival of Trees is a fundraiser supporting local healthcare. It has a show of decorated Christmas trees and various seasonally-themed displays in late November. Simcoe Day is the municipal holiday of Ontario held on the first Monday of August. Peterborough Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade is held during the first Saturday of December at 5:00 pm.
