Innisfil is located in the County of Simcoe within the Canadian province of Ontario. Located on the western shore of Lake Simcoe, Innisfil lies immediately to the south of Barrie. Toronto, the provincial capital, lies 80 kilometres to the south of Innisfil.

Until recently, Innisfil has been a rural area. These days, new development within the Barrie area and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is supporting unprecedented residential growth in the town of Innisfil.

In Innisfil is the community of Cookstown, a great place to browse antique specialty stores and shopping outlets. In fact, it is "the antique capital" of Southern Ontario. Cookstown hosts a huge garage sale known as "Wing-Ding" each June. The Cookstown Fair is another popular yearly event, held in the month of September. Cookstown has its place in Canadian history as the birthplace of Emily Murphy, a Canadian Women's rights activist. She became the first female police magistrate within the British Empire in 1916 and made important contributions to legal rights for women within Canada.

The town of Innisfil includes the communities of Bethesda, Big Bay Point, Big Cedar Point, Cedar Mount, Cookstown, Churchill, Fennell, Gilford, Glenhaven Beach, Glenwood Beach, Killarney Beach, Innisfil Heights, De Grassi Point, Alcona, Simcoe Beach, Alderslea, Bear Point, Barclay, Bell Ewart, Belle Air Beach, maple Grove, Lefroy, Sandy Cove, Mosselanka Beach, Sandy Cove Acres, Stroud, Nantyr and Nantyr Park.
