The town of Georgetown is in Halton Hills within Ontario Province. The community is around 60 kilometres west of Toronto along the Credit River. The town lies in the Regional Municipality of Halton and is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The town's name came from George Kennedy, one of the early settlers in the area. Georgetown Marketplace is the community's commercial center, a vibrant shopping mall with 63 shops, consisting of Zellers and Wal-Mart, Peoples Jewelers and Coles, Winners and Home Sense.
The community is still going through development, specially in the south, with lots of new companies appearing on the scene, like for example Neighbours, Tim Hortons, Metro plus a lot more.
Lots of large corporations have offices within Georgetown, consisting of Neilson Dairy, Mold-Masters Limited and CPI Canada. Furthermore, businesses like ADM Archer Cooper Standard, Daniels Midland Cocoa, Howmet Georgetown Casting, a division of Alcoa Power and Propulsion and Kingsbury Technologies (Canada) Inc. are located there. The Jehovah's Witnesses have located their national headquarters in Georgetown.
Georgetown Station is the hub for GO Transit and Via Rail. GO Transit Georgetown line provides transportation between Toronto, Georgetown and Guelph. Georgetown could be reached by vehicle through Highway 7, and via Highway 401 by Mountainview Road/9th Line (Halton regional Road 13), Winston Churchill Boulevard (Halton regional Road 19) and Trafalgar Road (Halton regional Road 3).
