Victoria is the county seat of Victoria County and now has a population of roughly 60,603. The Victoria Metropolitan Statistical Area, that consists of three separate counties, has a population of roughly 111,163.

The Gulf of Mexico is situated 30 miles out from the city. The city of Victoria is a bustling regional center for the "Golden Crescent," which is a seven-county region. Just 30 minutes from the city of Victoria are the Presidio La Bahia and Mission Espiritu Santo. La Bahia is considered to be the best preserved Spanish Presidio within the nation. A fantastic example of an early Spanish colonial church is Espiritu Santo.

The main cogs of the economy in Victoria are based around gas, petrochemical and oil production. Chemical plants and ranching take up secondary roles in the economy. There are several areas of employment in Victoria, including healthcare, educational services, manufacturing, construction, chemicals and mining. Roughly 29 percent of the workforce is involved with professional, management and related jobs whilst 26% of the labor force is involved with sales and office occupations.
