Cobourg is a small town in Ontario province, Canada. With a population of 18,500, it is the biggest town within Northumberland County in the province's southern part.
Cobourg Town has designated its well preserved downtown, part of its Heritage Conservation District. There is a conventional small-town main street, lots of nice parks and a waterfront harbour which helps to make the town of Cobourg a wonderful family destination. The town hall dates back to 1860 and is Canada's National Historic Site. An even older building, known as the "Barracks", is expected to open as a heritage centre next year.
Every Canada Day, the Cobourg Waterfront Festival is held in Victoria Park. This event features crafts, entertainment and arts on the beach. The festival was first created in 1987 by Mark Finnan and Peter Tulumello, two prominent members of the local arts scene.
Food processing is the leading business within Cobourg. A lot of the people are currently employed by several businesses like for example Weetabix and SABIC Innovative Plastics Cobourg Town has three high schools: St. Mary's Secondary School, Cobourg District Collegiate Institute East (CDCI EAST) and CDCI West. Cobourg is located ninety five km east of Toronto and 7 km east of Port Hope, that is its nearest neighbour. To the south lies Lake Ontario. The town of Cobourg is accessed through Highway 401 (exits 474 and 472) and Northumberland County Road 2 (formerly Highway 2).
