Las Vegas, Nevada is considered the "Entertainment Capital of the World". The city serves as the county seat for Clark County and is the biggest city when it comes to population within Nevada. The city of Las Vegas has a long standing reputation as a city popular for its casinos and various attractions. Entertainment, gambling, shopping and fine dining keep tourists to this particular city always busy. Once called as Sin City for the various forms of adult entertainment which were encouraged and tolerated, Las Vegas is today becoming famous with retirees and families. Las Vegas has a population of roughly 583,750, as of 2010. The bigger Las Vegas metropolitan area has almost two million inhabitants.

The city of Las Vegas was officially established during 1905 and six years afterward was incorporated as a city. It has become the most densely inhabited city established during the past century. The railroads first boosted the population of the area, but it wasn't until the city legalized gambling and gaming that the city really began to flourish. The downtown area developed numerous hotels and casinos. At the end of World War II, fortune seekers and people vacationing from across the US searched for excitement at "the strip", a place of magnificent restaurants, dazzling entertainment and luxurious hotels. The city's unique aesthetic and appeal makes it a setting often used for movies and television shows. Fremont Street's neon lighting displays was the reason why the street was referred to as Glitter Gultch.

There are several entertainment museums within the city of Las Vegas with the Guinness World of Records Museum, the Liberace Museum and the Elvis-a-Rama Museum. The strip provides not just cheap hotel-run entertainment, but shows by among the top names within the music industry. Art enthusiasts can see collections of Picassos and various artists showcased within hotel lobbies. The Las Vegas Art Museum is a branch of the Guggenheim.

Las Vegas has neither state nor city taxes, a factor which has boosted development considerably. The city now has 19 of the globe's 20 largest hotels, which fuel a bustling economy with lots of jobs for young transplants seeking their fortunes. Roughly 20% of work in this internationally known resort destination are related to gaming. Headquartered here are Harrah's Entertainment and MGM Mirage, two of the largest gaming corporations in the world. The growth of the population in Las Vegas has fueled a significant amount of construction.

Electronic gaming and telecommunications are popular regional businesses. The city boasts companies like: Bigelow Aerospace, CommPartners, eVital Communications, Datanamics, Petroglyph, SkywireMedia, Switch Communications and WorldDoc.
