Referred to as the "Queen City", Charlotte is the biggest city in the state of North Carolina and the seat of Meckenburg County. It is the 18 largest city within the United States, with a population right around 700,000. In 2008, the city was chosen the "Best Place to Live in America" by relocate-America.com. It was even the 8th amongst the 100 "Best Places to Live and Launch" by CNNMoney.com. Prevention also rated the city 4th best "Walking City" in the nation and the best in the state of North Carolina.

There is a strong base of culture and arts in the city. Each year there are around 70,000 events and performances, comprising festivals and arts education programs, which is supported by the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and its 27 cultural organizations underneath it. Charlotte is home to numerous museums, like for instance the Second Ward Alumni House Museum, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Mint Museum of Craft + Design, Mint Museum of Art and Bechtler Museum of Modern Art (guide people through ever-changing exhibits featuring among the world's best collections), McColl Center for Visual Art, Light Factory, Levine Museum of the New South (shows amongst the most captivating collections of post-Civil War Southern history consisting of Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers, its award-winning centerpiece), Historic Rosedale Plantation, Harvey B. There are many parks within and around the city for everybody to enjoy. Frazier Park is a place for dog owners to take their pets out for walks and has separate sections for small dogs and large dogs. The Frazier dog park has a supply of public water intended for the dogs to drink from. Swaney Pointe K-9 Park is situated at Ramsey Creek Park where there are two separate fenced-in secure sections for large and small dogs. Barkingham Park is located at Reedy Creek Park. It is a fenced-in, four-acre, off-leash place for dogs. Furthermore, Charlotte also has Ray's Fetching Meadow and Davie Dog Park. For those who want to see Mother Nature at its best, they could go to Mecklenburg County Nature Preserves, Latta Plantation, Reedy Creek, McDowell and Cooper Head Island, Cowan's Ford, Evergreen, RibbonWalk, Flat Branch, Rural Hill, Auten, Gar Creek, Stephen's Road, Shuffletown Prairie and Bracket Bluff.

next to New York, Charlotte is the 2nd biggest banking center in the United States. It is presently a major U.S. financial center, with Bank of America as the largest financial institution situated within Charlotte city. Charlotte also boasts of the numerous Fortune 500 companies headquartered within its metropolitan area: Bank of America, Lowe's in suburban Mooresville, Nucor (steel producer), Duke Energy, Family Dollar, Sonic Automotive, Goodrich Corporation, and SPX Corporation (industrial technology). The city of Charlotte is also the hub of the U.S. motorsports trade, such as NASCAR. In 2007, more than three thousand five hundred new energy sector jobs were announced within the city, which made the city of Charlotte the base of energy-oriented organizations. These days, it is referred to as "Charlotte USA - The New Energy Capital."
