Indianapolis, Indiana is the states capital city. It also serves as the county seat of Marion. Based on the most recent 2010 census, the city of Indianapolis has a population of almost 840,000 inhabitants. Indianapolis comes in as the nation's 12th biggest city and behind Chicago, is the 2nd biggest city in the Midwest. After Phoenix, it is likewise the 2nd most heavily populated state capital city east of the Mississippi River. The city is considered to be among the fastest growing regions in the USA.

For much of its history, Indianapolis has oriented itself around government and the manufacturing industry. The city of Indianapolis has a much more diversified economy these days, with huge sectors in finance, education and health care. Another essential factor of the local economy is tourism. The city of Indianapolis usually hosts numerous conventions and sporting events. The most popular yearly event could be the Indianapolis 500.

The original native tribes to the region were the Delaware or Lenape tribes and the Miami tribes. Unfortunately, by the early 1820s, these tribes were displaced.

Indianapolis was first selected during the year 1820 to be the location for the state capital. Since the forming of the state of Indiana, Corydon operated as the original state capital. Although nearly all state capitals in the United States are normally situated within the central part of their state, Indianapolis is the closest city amongst all of the capital cities to be placed within the exact center of its state.

The cultural attractions in Indianapolis are abundant. There is the Indiana Repertory Theatre and the Indianapolis Civic Theatre. The Eiteljorg Museum of the American Indians and Western Art is situated here along with the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The Indianapolis Museum of Art is located on 52 acre grounds, surrounded by gorgeous gardens with J.K. Lilly Jr's restored mansion. Indianapolis is also home to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. There is something fun, exciting or relaxing to experience for everybody to enjoy.

For the outdoor fanatics, there is a lot to do within Indiana State. There are various activities available which are suitable for each member of the family. For instance, the largest park in the state is Brown County Park, situated just 46 miles away in the city of Nashville, Indiana. It offers camping facilities, cabins, 12 miles of hiking trails, awesome fishing and horseback riding and beautiful lakes. The Falls of Ohio State park is only a couple of hour drive away, situated within Clarksville on the Ohio River. It provides fishing, hiking and fossils that are 386 million years old. These fossils can be viewed when the Ohio River recedes during the early part of autumn.

Within the city of Indianapolis, the largest industry sectors by employment are social services, health care, manufacturing and retail trade, although not in that specific order. The metropolitan area offers a less proportion of manufacturing jobs compared to the state as a whole. The city has much more jobs in wholesale trade, waste management, administrative, support, warehousing and transportation, scientific specialties and professional, technical services.
