The Painter and Decorator Program is designed to teach a student how to apply paint, wallpaper, fabric and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other structures. A Painter and Decorator student will also learn how to repair cracks and holes in walls and prepare work surfaces by scraping, sanding, sand-blasting, hydro-blasting and steam-cleaning.
A student can usually complete the Painter and Decorator Program within a 3 year time frame. Approx. 15 weeks of the program are designated for in-class learning. After graduation, the Painter and/or Decorator will be expected to know how to work on everything from home interiors, residential painting and wall covering work; to industrial tanks and conveyors, corrosion control, wood staining, and surface preparation.
The Painter and/or Decorator will also need to be well versed in determining the quantities and cost of materials needed. Environmental concerns have also recently become part of the required knowledge base.
