Millwright

The Millwright Program teaches a student how to install, repair, overhaul and maintain machinery and heavy mechanical equipment, such as conveyor systems. The Millwright student will also learn how to perform routine maintenance activities, such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, adjusting valves and seals, and investigating breakdowns.

The Millwright Program can usually be completed within a 4 year time frame. After graduation, Millwrights can work in very diverse settings, such as repair shops, plants, construction sites, mines, logging operations, ski hills and most production and manufacturing facilities.

In general, a Millwright will work from plans and blueprints and install equipment using hand tools, power tools, and hoisting equipment. They use grinders and lathes to make customized parts and construct machinery foundations. Some Millwrights specialize in construction and installation only, while others are involved in trouble shooting.
