In 2006, the Tubbs family established a scholarship to provide an annual award to up to two individuals pursuing education in the field of respiratory health services, and who has his/her permanent address within 100 kilometres of Red Deer. Recognizing and understanding the significant role of respiratory health professionals, the Tubbs family has established this scholarship to benefit both current and aspiring respiratory health service professionals.
Each year the James Bradley Tubbs Memorial Scholarship is awarded to up to two individuals pursuing a career in respiratory health services or to an individual currently employed and pursuing advanced education in respiratory health services in the Red Deer area. The scholarship may be withheld if a suitable candidate is not identified.
Successful applicants will receive the $2,000 award toward:
- Credit course(s) in respiratory health from a certified educational institution (college, university, or technical institution)
- Clinical certification program in respiratory health
- An accredited respiratory therapy program
Eligibility:
- Must be currently enrolled and have successfully completed 50% of a minimum two (2) year fully accredited program in respiratory health at a college, university, or technical school. This program must provide technical skills that can be applied in an institution/community-based setting to qualify individuals for employment by Alberta Health Services in the Red Deer area.
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Must have a permanent address within a 100km radius of Red Deer.
- Must provide transcripts & confirmation of enrollment from the registrar.
- Must be a current employee or an individual who is pursuing a career in respiratory health.
- Must have a demonstrated commitment to the field of respiratory health.
- Must demonstrate outstanding aptitude and professional ability. High academic achievement is not a necessity.
- The successful candidate must provide his/her social insurance number
Candidates must meet any additional factors established by the Selection Committee that are consistent with the aims and purpose of the scholarship. Upon meeting all of the above requirements, applicants will be selected according to their demonstrated commitment to respiratory health services.
In the event there are no applicants that meet this criteria, we will review others who may provide care to Asthmatics such as ICU or Emergency nurses and/or those pursuing medical studies. It is important the successful applicant provides assurances their.intent is to practice in Central Alberta.
