To complement the Don B. Daily Safety Grant, the Don B. Daily Safety Steel Intern Scholarship provides an opportunity for North American university students studying safety or industrial safety hygiene to submit an application for a scholarship preceded by a paid summer internship within the steel manufacturing industry.
Applications for 2025–2026 will be accepted through 14 October 2024.
Please read all information below before submitting the application.
Don B. Daily Safety Steel Intern Scholarship, a paid summer internship followed by a US$7,500 one-year scholarship.
These awards are preceded by a paid summer internship at a North American steel-producing company or industry supplier.
- Up to two one-year awards.
- Applicant must commit to a paid summer internship at a North American steel company or industry supplier.
- Upon selection, AIST will assist in internship placement. Companies that qualify for the internship portion of this scholarship are located across North America. Upon selection, the recipient will provide his/her preferences for company and location. The company will interview the recipient as they would for a typical job. The recipient will have the final ability to accept.
- Applicants are also encouraged to seek information from steel companies at career/job events and may, at any time, accept an internship or co-op at a steel-producing company or industry supplier. If an internship is self-placed by the recipient, the company providing the internship must be pre-approved by AIST. Please contact AIST prior to accepting a self-placed internship for approval. Acceptance of an internship at a company not specifically related to steel manufacturing will automatically disqualify the applicant.
- The recipient will be disqualified if he/she rescinds an accepted offer of internship from within the program.
