GlobalAir.com is passionate about supporting the future of aviation. Whether students are training to become a professional pilot who flies for a living or those who are training for the pure satisfaction of obtaining their license, we want to help them achieve their goals. The Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation Scholarship will provide $1,000 annually to four American students who are dedicated to blogging on a weekly basis about flight training, flying, school, and their interest in aviation.
By partnering with students in university aviation programs throughout the United States, we hope to provide a scholarship that is beneficial to the student, as well as provide a platform for them to share their experiences while training for a successful future in the aviation industry.
The platform helps connect the student pilot with a large online aviation community of pilots, engineers, flight departments, as well as serve as act as a recruitment tool for the school itself.
Submissions will be accepted starting March 1, 2024. The deadline for application submissions is August 15, 2024.
Calvin L. Carrithers was an educator and Korean war veteran who spent much of his time volunteering. Calvin started his education career as a high school coach and teacher in Gallipolis, OH. He eventually returned home to Louisville, KY where he taught industrial arts and coached Baseball, Basketball and Track before moving into administration and becoming an assistant superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools. A true believer in continuing education Mr. Carrithers completed his Master’s degree then worked on his doctorial at the University of Indiana and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the International School of Business Officials.
Upon retirement, he became a consultant to the Kentucky Department of Education, a project manager for the Kentucky Finance Cabinet, overseeing the expansion of the Louisville International Convention Center. In addition to serving on the review board for the Kentucky Bar Association, Mr. Carrithers was a Kentucky Colonel and a former 32nd degree mason.
“Bill” as he was known passed away in June of 2008 his motto was “You never stop learning”. Globalair.com would like to dedicate the Calvin L. Carrithers scholarship to young aviators who want to exceed and never wish to stop learning in the field of aviation.
