The Army Scholarship Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to providing college scholarships for undergraduate study to deserving children of current and former members of the U.S. Army, and to spouses of currently serving soldiers.
Founded in 2001 by a group of U.S. Army veterans, the Foundation is dedicated to assisting sons, daughters, and spouses of soldiers in achieving their educational dreams. It is staffed entirely by volunteers and keeps operating expenses extremely low so that 98% of donated funds go toward scholarships.
Applicants must:
- Be sons or daughters of regular active duty, active duty Reserve, or active duty National Guard U.S. Army members in good standing,
OR
- Be spouses of serving enlisted regular active duty, active duty Reserve, or active duty National Guard U.S. Army members in good standing,
OR
- Be sons or daughters of former U.S. Army members who received an honorable discharge or medical discharge, or who were killed while serving in the U.S. Army.
- Be high school seniors, high school graduates, or registered as undergraduate students at an accredited college or post-high school vocational/technical institution.
- Have a 2.0 grade point average on a 4-point system.
- Have a family adjusted gross income (AGI) of $160,000 or less as stated on IRS Form 1040, Line 11 for 2023 or 2024.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Not have reached their 24th birthday by the application deadline date in the year they apply if they are a child of an Army member.
- Not have previously earned a bachelor’s degree from a college or university.

Applicants must submit the online application no later than April 15th of the application year:
The Army Scholarship Foundation (ASF) awards one-year financial scholarships on an annual basis to qualified and deserving students. The scholarships are a means to reward Army families for the sacrifices our soldiers make every day to serve their nation and as a way to help their spouses and children become leaders in American society. As part of the application and review process, ASF aims to get a complete picture of the student and family.
In addition to information about yourself and your school, work, and volunteer activities, you will need to provide a number of attachments to complete your online application. To help you prepare, here is a list of information for you to pull together prior to starting your application.
- Parent or Spouse Proof of Service Statement of Good Service for active duty or Form DD214 for veteran
- High School Transcript
- College Transcript if applicable. Current college students with less than 30 credit hours must submit both high school and college transcripts.
- Applicant Proof of Service if the applicant has their own military service: Statement of Good Service for active duty or Form DD214 for veteran
- IRS Form 1040 for family pages 1 and 2 only. If more than four dependents, also include the list of additional dependents
- FAFSA Submission Summary FAFSA Form Answers and Student Aid Index (SAI)
- Color Photograph
- Essay a 325-word (maximum) essay, selecting one of the following six topics:
- What are your values and what do you think is important in life? Why?
- Describe your community service or other activities, explaining how this involvement has influenced your life.
- Describe an event that affected you in some way i.e. socially, physically, emotionally or spiritually, giving better insight into you as a person.
- What does the opportunity for higher education mean to you and what will you do with it?
- How have America’s military values influenced your life?
- Who is your hero?
