Through the SC HOSA Scholarship Program, scholarship awards are available to deserving SC HOSA members who plan to further their education in post-secondary health science education programs. Scholarship applications are due annually with the state leadership conference (SLC) registration materials.
In 2023, twenty outstanding students received awards of $500 to $1,500 to support their education after high school. The amount and number of scholarships will vary from year to year. There are no limits to the number of applications per chapter.
Beginning in 2024 all scholarship recipients must be in attendance at the SLC, he/she will be called on stage to receive the scholarship. Recipients will be required to attend the SLC in order to receive his/her award. The program is made possible by the partners who sponsor the scholarships.
WHO MAY APPLY:
- The scholarship is available to either a secondary senior or any post-secondary student who plans to continue or further his/her education in the healthcare field.
- The applicant must be currently enrolled in a healthcare pathway.
- The applicant must be an active member of HOSA.
- The applicant must be a HOSA member in good standing.
- The applicant must register and attend 2024 SC HOSA State Leadership Conference.
- NEW- If you are applying for a scholarship, it is important to keep in mind that attending the scholarship dinner and Opening Session is a requirement to receive the scholarship. The activities take place on Wednesday, March 13th, beginning in the late afternoon. Details will be shared via Evite for those who will be receiving a scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS:
The application must be submitted on-line by the deadline, February 1, 2024, to be considered.
Mailed or faxed applications will NOT be accepted.
Incomplete and late submissions will NOT be considered.
- All applications are reviewed by a designated scholarship selection committee. The selection committee will make the final decision on all scholarship awards.
- The amount and number of scholarships will vary from year to year.
- The winners of SC HOSA scholarship awards will be announced at the state leadership conference (SLC).
- The scholarship award will be forwarded directly to the school, college, or university upon receipt of documentation verifying the recipient's enrollment at that school, college or university. Also, if awarded a scholarship, you are required to complete a Transfer Funds Form.
The following items MUST be included as part of the online scholarship application and uploaded where indicated by the deadline, February 1, 2024.
If items require a signature, you must print the form, get the appropriate signature(s), scan and upload as indicated in the online application.
All uploaded pages must have applicant’s name and specified document title at the top of each page. All documents must be in PDF format.
- Further Education Indicate the post-secondary healthcare program, course of study or major, and the college/university you plan to attend.
- If an acceptance letter is available, upload a pdf copy as indicated in the on-line application.
- If not available, please upload a statement indicating it is not currently available and describe your plans.
- Transcript of grades (official or unofficial accepted)
- List your HOSA ONLY leadership roles and activities.
- Evidence of leadership responsibilities and characteristics should be represented by including, offices held, awards received and personal involvement. These activities and roles should include the year that you participated. Activities for the current year should be listed separately. See table 1 on page 3 for an example.
- List all OTHER school leadership roles, activities, honors, educational societies, or offices held, indicating the quality of your academic performance/leadership, NOT related to HOSA. See table 2 below on page 3 for an example.
- Community-Involvement: include your community service activities, volunteer experience, time invested and a description of each activity. See table 3 on page 3 for an example.
- Personal Statement How HOSA has played a part in your future goals.
- Describe three exemplary qualities gained through your HOSA experiences.
- How you can use them in your future college or community career.
- Three reference submissions are required.
- Reference submissions may be provided by the following:
- Reference one: A teacher, advisor, principal, or school counselor
- Reference two: An employer or community leader
- Reference three: A source other than a relative
- You must submit your reference names and contact information between November 15, 2023 January 19, 2024 through the SC HOSA Reference Request form. SC HOSA will email your three references an online form where they may complete and submit your reference through the SC HOSA website. No written reference letters accepted.
- References should have knowledge of the applicant’s scholarship, leadership abilities, interpersonal skills and character
