Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Have participated in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program for a minimum of 24 months and
- Be applying for post-secondary education at a university or community college course leading to a degree or diploma or a post-second training program that will lead to certification in a recognized profession.
Eligibility
- Sea Cadet Service: Applicants must have participated in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program for a minimum of 24 months
- Qualifying Programs: Applicants must be applying for post-secondary education at a university or community college course leading to a degree or diploma or a post-secondary training program that will lead to certification in a recognized profession.
- Aging Out: A cadet who is in the training program is eligible to apply in June of that training year. (Example; a Cadet Who ages out in November may apply in June Of the following year.)
- Not Aging Out: A Cadet who does not age out and remains active in the program while attending the first year of post-secondary education may apply for program scholarship for the second year of the program.
- Gap Year: Cadets who decide to take a break of not more than 24 months between completing high school and starting a post-secondary education program may apply for a scholarship in the year that they are going to recommence their formal education.
- Special Cases: Applicants who seek exemptions from these rules will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Exception: These scholarships will not be granted to applicants who enroll in the Canadian Forces Regular Officer Training Plan.
- Funds: Scholarships are made payable to the institution that the recipient is attending.
What to Send Us
The following documents must be included in your application submission.
- Your Cadet Information Card: An up-to-date copy of your Cadet Card, provided to you by your corps.
- Your Personal Letter of Application: Describe your passion for your program, your goals, the accomplishments you take special pride in, and anything else that would help us get a picture of who you are. This letter should be no longer than two type written pages.
- Your CV or Biography: This is where you show us what you have done. You can do so in paragraph or point form. Tell us what you have done in your community, and with Cadets. What are your hobbies and interests? What jobs have you had? Make sure to tell us about any awards or special commendations that you or the groups that you have been part of have received.
- Letters of Recommendation: One letter of recommendation from your Commanding Officer plus either two or three additional letters from other people who know you and feel that you deserve a scholarship.
- Your Final Year Mid-term Marks: Your final year midterm marks and overall average, provided to you by your Secondary Education Institution.
- Letter of Acceptance or Provisional Acceptance from the Institution you plan to Attend: If you are unable to provide this at the time of your application, attach an explanation.
