The undergraduate award is intended for low-income families and is intended to alleviate the financial burden of funding undergraduate tuition fees in Texas, whether at a 4 year or a 2-year college.
Purpose Of The Award
General Description Of The Award
Scholarships awarded for the Fall semester. This scholarship is for students resident in Texas and applying for funding to study in Texas. Students currently at college or high school seniors may apply. Scholarships may be used for tuition and college-related expenses payable to the college. Funding will be sent directly to the college.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a resident of Texas;
- Be enrolled in full-time education within the Texas education system;
- Major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Business-related subjects (including Management, HR, Marketing, Finance, Accounting etc);
- Come from a low-income household;
- Maintain a GPA of 3 or above (current college students) or 3.5 (current high school students applying for Freshman year funding);
- Be able to attend an Awards Dinner to receive the award in Houston on April 24th 2025.
How To Apply
Applicants need to complete an application form (click on the link below) and upload the following to it:
- Letter of recommendation from a teacher on a school or college letterhead. If your teacher prefers to keep this letter confidential, it can be sent in separately by email to info@baftx.org before the deadline of 12pm on March 31st. Guidelines for teachers to write your reference letter are available here;
- School transcript - official or unofficial;
- FAFSA report (or TAFSA report for non-US citizens);
- Essay: Please submit an essay of between 400 and 450 words. "Describe your educational and career goals and why you need a scholarship from BAFTX to achieve them. Excluding financial needs, what are the most significant challenges you expect to face in successfully completing college. How will you overcome these challenges?"
Please note that the deadline for applications is 12pm on March 31st and we cannot accept incomplete or late forms.
