The mission of the Maine Osteopathic Association is to serve the osteopathic profession in the state of Maine through a coordinated effort of professional education, professional advocacy, and member services in order to ensure the quality of osteopathic care to the people of this state. The MOA has over 400 physician members and all students of the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine receive a FREE MOA membership during their medical training.

Scholarship Information

The Maine Osteopathic Educational Foundation (MOEF) awards multiple scholarships to students attending accredited and AOA approved colleges of osteopathic medicine and to students who have matched into Maine residencies. The deadline for applications for scholarship support is May 1st of each year. Scholarships are available only to Maine residents.

Residence in Maine for the sole purpose of post-secondary education is not considered evidence of Maine residence for the purposes of the scholarship. An applicant who is a graduate of a public or private secondary school in Maine is considered eligible regardless of whether or not the applicant has resided elsewhere in the interim between graduation and application. The MOEF reserves the right to require evidence of legal residence and to interpret the residence status of any application in the spirit of the Foundation's intent to provide support to "Maine students".

2025 Scholarship Award Descriptions

1st, 2nd, or 3rd Year Student Scholarship:

Awards of $2,500 each will be awarded to the successful applicant  who is a resident of Maine and able to present proof of enrollment at an approved osteopathic college. Students are  eligible only if they can provide acceptable evidence of legal residence in the state of Maine for a period of not less than three years prior to their first application. Residence in Maine for the purpose of post-secondary education only is not considered evidence of Maine residency for this program. Preference is given to applicants who evidence an interest in returning to Maine to practice primary care.

4th Year Student Scholarship:

Annual award of $2,500 for a 4th year student who has matched into a primary care residency in Maine for postgraduate training.  Preference is given to applicants who express an interest in returning to Maine to practice primary care.  Applicants do not need to provide evidence of legal residence in Maine to apply for this scholarship.

Recipients of MOEF Scholarships are expected to:

Maintain Good Academic Standing: Continue to meet academic performance standards as outlined in the eligibility criteria.

Participate in Osteopathic Community Activities: Where possible, engage with the Maine Osteopathic Association community and/or Foundation and participate in events or activities related to osteopathic medicine.
