Texas FCCLA will award ten (10) scholarships to outstanding members who plan to attend an accredited Texas college or university and major in any area of Family and Consumer Sciences.

The scholarship amounts to $18,000 and will be awarded in eight disbursements of $2,250 over the course of eight semesters, provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility criteria set forth by the scholarship's governing rules. Recipients are required to submit documentation for each semester's disbursement.

Texas Association Family, Career and Community Leaders of America awards ten (10) scholarships to outstanding members in Texas majoring in Family and Consumer Science Education at an accredited Texas college or university. The scholarship amounts to $18,000 and will be awarded in disbursements of $2,250 for up to eight semesters to the college or university to which the recipient attends, provided the recipient continues to qualified under the governing rules of the scholarship (see Page 3).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications should be completed in full and submitted on-line to the Association, which will carry out the evaluation process and determination of the recipient of the scholarship(s) awarded.

SUBMITTED BY FEBRUARY 1, 2025: All applications must be submitted on-line with all required documentation and signatures by 11:59 pm CST on February 1, 2025. No exceptions will be made.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria: Citizenship/Residency: The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and/or be born in the United States and a resident of the State of Texas. If place of birth of applicant as indicated on application and/or transcript is other than the United States, appropriate proof of citizenship must be furnished.

Academic Standing: The applicant must be a graduating senior ranked in the upper quarter (1/4) of his/her graduating class or have a 3.5 grade point average on an unweighted 4.0 scale at the completion of the first grading period of their senior year. This ranking is to be verified as part of the official transcript or by an accompanying certification from an appropriate school official. Applicant's scholastic average is to be reported on the application; average must be expressed as a numerical percentage or as a grade point ratio with the scale indicated. An explanation of the grade scale must accompany the application or be part of the official transcript.

Graduation: The applicant must graduate at the end of the spring semester immediately following the awarding of the scholarship. Applicant must have passed the EOC exam as indicated on the transcript.

College Entrance Examination: No application will be accepted without test scores. The applicant must have taken either the SAT or ACT college entrance examination and furnish proof. Proof of the score may be a part of the official transcript or a copy of the official test results should be attached to the application. The information should reflect the date the test was taken. The highest test score will be used for evaluation but scores from different test dates will not be combined.

FCCLA Membership Requirement: The applicant must be an active member, in good standing, of an affiliated chapter of the Texas Association, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America for at least one year. and be eligible to compete for an FCCLA college scholarship to be used beginning with the fall semester of the year in which the scholarship is awarded.

Collegiate Acceptance/Enrollment: The applicant must enroll or plan to enroll in an accredited college or university within the confines of the State of Texas and MAJOR IN ANY AREA OF FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES. Applications will not be accepted from students who have not applied for admission by the deadline for application submission.

Activities: Leadership potential and character of the applicant should be demonstrated through an applicant's responses to the categories of the application detailing school, extracurricular and community activities and achievements. Personal references should provide additional information as well.

Narrative: Each applicant must include a typed narrative of approximately 200 words explaining "How FCCLA and your Family and Consumer Sciences coursework prepared you for the future". Applicant's name, home address with county, chapter name, and chapter ID, must be typed as a heading to the narrative in the upper right-hand corner of Page 1.

References: Each applicant must submit two (2) letters of personal reference from persons who are well acquainted with him/her. References should be typed and should include the name, address and daytime phone number of the person making the recommendation, as well as an indication of the person's relationship to the applicant (teacher, minister, employer, relative, etc.) These letters must be submitted with the application. References should indicate knowledge of applicant's character, determination to pursue a college education and any other factors, which will assist evaluation. No more than two letters may be submitted per applicant; no letter should exceed two pages in length.

Documentation: Each application must be accompanied by an official transcript showing academic average and grading scale through four years of high school, class size and official ranking of applicant; citizenship status if place of birth is other than the United States; proof of either SAT or ACT scores; certification of FCCLA membership; narrative; and references. All documents must be uploaded individually on-line in a PDF format.
