Intermediate Listening - 2nd year


This is a listening comprehension strategies course for students who are non-native speakers of English but who have previously studied English. The course emphasizes recognition of spoken classroom registers and instructions, and note-taking while listening to short academic lectures.



Objectives:

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Follow basic instructions and directions to complete a task.

2. Identify different classroom registers (e.g., informal conversation, formal lecture style).

3. Record into notes main ideas, key supporting details, and examples.

4. Practice employing symbols and abbreviations in notes.

5. Reproduce in notes material presented on the blackboard.

6. Follow topic development or change by recognition of key discourse markers.

7. Record into notes explanations given for key terms related to lecture topics.

8. Respond with accuracy to true/false, multiple choice, and short answer questions based on lecture material.
