Computer Literacy and Applications - 1st year
An introductory survey of computers and their role in the modern world. Emphasis is on computer terminology, hardware and software. Opportunities for hands-on experience using micro-computer applications will be included. Software may include spreadsheets, word processing, database management systems and the world wide web.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Be familiar with both computer hardware and software for microcomputers;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the role computers play in our lives now and in the future;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the programming process;
4. Demonstrate an understanding of computer terminology;
5. Demonstrate knowledge of application software functions;
6. Use a graphic interface;
7. Format and edit word processing documents;
8. Maintain database files and create data base reports;
9. Identify software-licensing requirements;
10. Identify communication hardware;
11. Solve problems using spreadsheets.
